6 End-of-Season Sale Shopping Tips!

It's that time of the year already, summer is on it's way out and fall merchandise is rolling into all the stores. I spend a lot of time checking out retailers for sales, new trends, and styles that I feature here on the blog. I thought it would be great to share a few of the "tricks-of-the trade" with you when it comes to shopping the sale racks and clearance this time of the year.

I have spend a huge amount of my career working in retail as a store manager and also working with brands on this side of things. Most retailers end their fiscal year at the end August, meaning that July 1st - August 31st is a huge time for pushing merchandise off the sales floor so that new product can take it's place. Back-to-School through Holiday is a huge money making time for retailers. They want full price product on the sales floor for these peak sales times. That is way you see so many "Clearance", "Side Walk Sales", "End of Season", "Anniversary" or "Flash Sales" in the months of July - August.

So what does all of  this mean for YOU...

1. If you wanted a trendy piece or summer style that you didn't get before now, this is the probably the lowest price you are going to find it. Don't wait for more markdowns, because this is probably the lowest it will go this season.

2. DO NOT buy something just because it's on sale! If you love it buy it, if not move on. A really great sale is tempting, but if you wouldn't buy it at full price, then don't buy it on sale. Save your pennies for new season gems that will excite you about your upcoming fall wardrobe.

3. Try Everything On!! Don't buy anything without trying it on first. Some sales are Final, and you don't want to get stuck with something that doesn't fit your body correctly. Know the return policies at check out and make sure things fit your well before buying.

4. Save some of your end of season purchases for the beginning of next season. If you find something from summer on major sale and you love it, save it until next season. It will give you new items to look forward to and save you money on your spring/summer wardrobe next year.

5. If you find something you love on sale, scoop it up quick! Things don't last long this time of the year, especially staple items that can be worn for several seasons. These pieces sell quick sometimes within hours of being marked down.

6. Most of all Be Smart with your purchases! Make a plan before you start shopping and stick to it!

Summer Yellow + Mixed Prints

Summer is winding down slowly and I am all about mixing in my fall staple pieces with my late summer styles. These leo loafers are my absolute favorite recent purchase. I know I am going to be wearing these babies a lot for the next few months as I style up all my new fall looks. A pair of classic boyfriend jeans are also a great style to wear right now. They will transition seamlessly into fall and can be styled with just about any top or jacket.

This time of the year can be tricky when we are so in between seasons, but the best way to get through it is to style things together that create fun looks with color and print. It's easy to get bored and tired of our wardrobes at the end of the season, so find a few new fall pieces that can be worn now to spice things up!

End of Summer Transitions | Summit Fair

Happy Thursday Friends! Lately my outfits have been all about the beginning stages of transitioning into Fall. I've been finding easy ways to subtlety start adding pieces that are a little more layered and textured with darker patterns and prints. I've also rotated into my wardrobe some ankle boots and a few more closed toed shoe options too. This is my favorite time of the year for fashion, because I love the many combinations of different clothing pieces and building outfits. This is when it's fun to be a stylist!

I stopped by Loft Next Door at Summit Fair over the weekend and picked up a couple of new pieces including this comfy draw string skirt and light weight sleevless sweater which is going to be perfect for layering under jackets and cardigans all season long! If you don't have a sleeveless sweater in your wardrobe yet, I would definitely get one for the fall season. Loft and Loft Next Door currently have several options available at great price points!
