What I wore:

For a casual date night out, I styled  my new favorite suede dress with a light weight denim jacket. I knew Nick and I would want to enjoy the outside patio at BW, so a cute layered look was what I was going for.  Suede is one of my favorite transitional fabrics going into fall. It's comfortable and soft and can be styled dressy or casual. If you don't have any suede pieces in your wardrobe yet, this is the perfect time to find a few things to add. I've seen several great pieces while shopping the stores at Summit Fair including boots, handbags, and jackets that would make great additions to any fall wardrobe.

I know it's not quite fall yet, but this week the weather has been cooler and there has been a crispness in the air that has me ready to start changing things up with my wardrobe. I've started to pull out some of my fall favorites and I've even started the dreaded chore of changing over my closet from summer to fall! This week while I was out shopping the stores at Summit Fair I noticed a ton of new merchandise and I've been thinking about what new items I'll be adding this season that will compliment my fall favorites from last season. The print is perfect for wearing belted like I have here or layering it up with some of my favorite jackets, sweaters, and vests later. Our Wedding...1 Year and Counting

It's crazy to think that we have already been married for one whole year! It feels like I blinked and and this year was over, we built a new home, did a little bit of traveling, and we've started to settle into our life together. I honestly feel like every day I am so blessed to have my best friend living this crazy life with me and I know that we have so much more ahead of us! Since last year was such a blur and we immediately threw ourselves back into life and building our new home right after the wedding I thought I would share some of the gorgeous photos Marissa Cribbs Photography captured from our special day!

10 Things I've learned during our first year of marriage

1. Communication is key. Learning to discuss everything and having open conversations without assuming anything makes things so much smoother. We are always changing, there is always something new to learn about each other and I have really learned to value sharing our time in the evenings discussing our day, our goals, and things we have going on with one another.

2. Have the Money talk early. One of the things I am really glad we got out of the way early (before we even said our vows) was to discuss our financial situations. If you are going to be in a marriage with someone, you have to be open and honest about your income, debt, student loans, and any other significant financial information. We understood that after we were married we would be sharing that responsibility and we made a plan for going forward.

3. Work as a Team and for each other. Something that I didn't realize would hit me so late was the moment he said "let me help you figure this out, we are a team." I realized 'hey, I'm not on my own anymore', I have someone here to support me and help me through anything. It's really comforting and I try everyday to be just as supportive for him as he is to me.

4. Do not have unrealistic expectations. Don’t expect your spouse to know what is in your head or read your mind. -- this kind of goes along with communication, but voice how you feel, what your thinking, and if something is bothering you -- just say it.

5. Find Balance in your different personalities. We have different strengths and weaknesses but I know him and he knows me. The fact that we've been in each other's lives for over a decade prior to getting married gives me a lot of insight into how he handles things. He never overthinks, I overthink everything. He never notices small details, I obsess over them. He loves public settings and social situations, I'd rather be at home on the couch with my pup and a movie. But, we share a lot of common passions, family values, and core beliefs, so we take our differences as opportunities to help each other and we've learned to balance each other out.

At the end of the day we love each other, and when things don't go as planned or we have an off day, I've learned to just have patience, take it one day and a time, and trust.
