Tulip Twist || Knee Socks

Tulip Twist

The weather in Kansas City has been absolutely amazing! I have had so much fun mixing in my warm weather clothes with my fall layering pieces. Tulip Boutique on the Country Club plaza has asked me and few fellow KC bloggers to style these fab knee socks. I decided to pair them with this button up floral skirt and a light weight anorak jacket.  Today the other bloggers and I are having a friendly competition over on Tulip's Facebook Page! Head over there to check out how the other bloggers styled their socks and don't forget to VOTE! **Update** I won the Tulip Twist Challenge! Thank you to everyone who voted :)

Knee socks are a big trend for Fall. You can wear them tall like I have decided to do here or you can scrunch them down and wear them with short boots. I like both looks and will be experimenting with styling them both ways. Watch for a few more looks featuring these fun socks soon!

A few days ago, I met up with my new friend Jessica and we strolled the plaza taking pics on an absolutely gorgeous fall afternoon. Jessica and I made a connection through our Instagram accounts and we decided to meet up for a fun photo session together! She is a fabulous photographer and she has a Blog too! I think sometimes when you meet someone you kind of click and I felt completely comfortable with Jessica and had such a blast taking pics together. Check out her blog/website for some of her beautiful photography! Thanks Jess for the gorgeous photos!

The Trench Jacket || Summit Fair

Over the weekend I decided it was time to sort through some of my outerwear and clean up my closet for the new season. I have quite a few jackets and coats that I don't wear anymore and for whatever reason I've held on to them. It got me thinking about what types of jackets and coats are good to invest in that will last from season to season. I want to buy pieces that will make it through much more than one season and that I feel will stand the test of time by remaining stylish. The only jacket that comes to mind is the classic trench coat. It has to be the most versatile coat ever! It literally can go from fall to winter to spring effortlessly. I personally love the shape and classic fit.

Macy's at Summit Fair has a great selection of jackets and coats right now. I spotted this chic darker tan colored Calvin Klein with these gorgeous gold buttons and was immediately in love! It looks so polished and so much more expensive than the $99.00 price point!

Trench Coat {Calvin Klein c/o Macy's @ Summit Fair}Black Leopard Trimmed Purse { Olivia + Joy c/o Macy's} Black Jeans {c/o Charlotte Russe @ Summit Fair} Black Heeled Boots {c/o Charlotte Russe @ Summit Fair sold out online but I love these and these} Sun Glasses {Loft} Necklace {Francesca's @ Summit Fair similar here}

There are many styles and lengths of trench coats available.  A mid length version can be worn with dresses and skirts as well has with pants making it much more versatile in your wardrobe.

When choosing a new jacket or coat make sure the style is classic and can fit into your wardrobe with several outfit combinations. A coat or jacket is a more expensive piece and you want to make sure you get great cost per wear out of the garment.

What is your favorite style of jacket? Do you have any tips for jacket or coat shopping? Share below in the comments, I'd love to hear from you!

How to Layer Like A Pro || Summit Fair

I love the fall season and one of the things I love most about it is the fashion. It's such a fun time to be able to experiment with all kinds of trends. Layering your looks is key to staying on trend. Sometimes women are afraid to layer because of the fear of looking heavier. I'm here to tell you if you layer your Fall looks right you will look fabulous!  A perfectly layered look can create a proportioned silhouette and can even help you feel more confident.

Sweater {c/o Charlotte Russe @ Summit Fair} Long Sleeve Tee {Maurices} Jeans {c/o Charlotte Russe @ Summit Fair} Purse {c/o Maurices @ Summit Fair} Scarf {Charming Charlie @Summit Fair}Belt {Charming Charlie} Booties {Similar DSW @ Summit Fair}

Start your layers with a simple cotton long sleeve tee. Solid colors, neutrals, or a small striped pattern are good options. Try to keep this foundation layer fitted to keep your shape looking slim. The less bulk under your layers the better. Now chose the next layer such as a cardigan, lightweight vest, or sweater. This is where you can really have fun with patterns. I chose this Aztec/Stripe sweater as my pattern in this outfit, but you can experiment with animal print, stripe, or florals. Next, you can add a jacket or coat over the top. Make sure this next layer compliments the patterned layer you have underneath. The weather in Kansas City hasn't been quite cold enough for coats yet so I decided to add a scarf to this look instead.

Sometimes sweaters can feel a little bit bulky. If you feel that way try belting your waist. This will define your waist line and bring in the extra fabric a bit around your body plus, it's fun to add a pop of color or metallic like I did. It's also best to play with texture when layering. When you style your look with more textures it adds more dimension and will help to keep you from looking heavy.

Fall looks can be so much fun because you can create some fabulous looking combinations with your favorite wardrobe pieces.

Do you have any tips for layering? Share them in the comments below.

Sweater Weather

I am pretty excited about Fall weather! The crisp air and the falling leaves are so beautiful. The past few days in KC have been raining and little bit chilly, but when the sun came out today I was so excited to pull out some of my new fall pieces! This hat and knit sweater will be on constant rotation for the next few months.

I love a versatile sweater like the one I found at Charlotte Russe. The length is perfect and the style and color will easily match with several outfits I already own. The heavy knit of these jacquard leggings from Macy's are going to be amazing for the colder months. A few accessories like this fabulous hat and handbag can really transform an outfit from simple to fab. Hats are a huge trend for Fall. Invest in a black or gray one that can be worn with several outfits. I love the rivet details on this one!

This is the time of year to think about purchasing items you think will carry you through the rest of the season.  Look for ways to extend what you already own into colder weather months and purchase things you know will be worth the money. Sweaters, heavier knits, and warm weather pants or leggings are great investment pieces right now. If you are looking for ways to spice up an outfit you already own add in some new fall accessories.

Sweater {c/o Charlotte Russe at Summit Fair similar here} Hat {Charming Charlie at Summit Fair not available online} Tweed Leggings {Macy's at Summit Fair} Black Long Sleeve Shirt {Maurices at Summit Fair} Necklace {Charming Charlie at Summit Fair} Purse {Maurices at Summit Fair} Shoes {Penny Loves Kenny similar DSW at Summit Fair}

Fall is my favorite season of Fashion! I love styling looks for the cooler weather and it's fun to play with layers. What is your favorite style season?

Dress Me Up in Fall Colors

I have been wearing all my dresses as much as possible lately because I know this gorgeous fall weather won't last forever. I'm holding on to the warmth just a little bit longer by layering up my dresses with jackets and sweaters to transition them in to Fall. I got this gray jacket last year when I was in New York and I didn't get to wear it too much last season. It has been a great addition to my fall wardrobe this year because it goes with everything!

Dress {Maison Jules from Macy's} Jacket {Joe Fresh gray not online but I found a similar one Here}Purse {Nine West from last year loving this one Here} Booties {Maurices not online} Necklace {Charming Charlie}

When I saw this dress at Macy's I was in LOVE :) The color combo couldn't be better for Fall. I love Pink, Orange, and Navy paired together and the flattering full skirt of this dress is so fun to wear.

Have you been keeping some of your summer dresses in your Fall wardrobe? How have you been styling them?

{Sunday Look} Kansas City Fashion Week

By the time I made it to the last and final show of fashion week I have to say I was a bit exhausted. I hope you can't tell how tired I was in these photos...eeeek! I had started Sunday off bright and early at the Fashion Group International Brunch and Panel discussion at Hotel Phillips and then raced over to Union Station for the last runway show of Kansas City Fashion Week. This bright pink dress was the perfect ensemble to keep me feeling pretty and energetic even though I could no longer feel my feet!

Dress {Francesca's from Summit Fair location} Necklace {Francesca's from Summit Fair love This One!} Shoes {Charlotte Russe similar here} Purse {Audacious Boutique}
