What I Wore | KCFW Friday Night Runway

Today I am sharing one of my favorite looks from Kansas City Fashion Week! This season was such a whirlwind! I joined the KC Fashion Week committee as the Fashion Editor this season and loved being involved a little bit more behind the scenes! I attended cocktail parties, did several print and media interviews leading up the shows, appeared on-air during a morning news segment, and attended and photographed all three runway shows for the KCFW Blog! It was a jam packed schedule but I honestly loved every single moment of it! Working in the fashion industry is a dream and I love being a part of the growing industry here in Kansas City!

The hair and makeup team from Beauty Brands did this awesome side braided updo on me that I absolutely loved! It was definatley out of my box, but there is no better time to try new styles than during fashion week, right!?!

Make sure to head over to the KCFW Blog to check out my runway coverage from Thursday night's show too!

Spring Suede | Summit Fair

Hello Lovelies! Spring has sprung! I've been enjoying the warm weather these last few days by scouting the stores at Summit Fair for new merchandise and new trends! One trend that I am extremely excited about is the spring suede that I've seen in several stores! This pretty little pink faux suede skirt is from Maurices and it's so comfy and soft! Spring suede is chic looking and is surprisingly light weight and easy to wear! I've seen skirts, jackets, and vests made from this amazing fabric and I know it's going to be a big hit this spring season!

Savers Shopping Party!

Last night I was joined by several other area Kansas City bloggers for a fun shopping and media night at Savers! (midnight snaKC, Fashion Plate KC, Mommypalooza, and Of Life and Style) We shopped the night away looking for treasures and trying on so many amazing things! We all scored some great new pieces to wear into spring and for the upcoming week of Kansas City Fashion Week event! I scored a brand new dress that will be perfect for upcoming bridal events and two new pairs of shoes! Whoo Hoo!

As a stylist and blogger I have become more and more interested in the thrift shopping experience. Thrift shopping is great option for those who love to express their style with unique pieces. It is the best way to score name brand merchandise and trend pieces without breaking your budget. It also serves as a great way to give back to the community and recycle unwanted or older items from your closet. This is also a great tool I use as a closet consultant when helping my clients refresh their wardrobes.

Savers has 330 stores across the US and Canada. The stores are redefining the thrift shopping experience with clean, bright aisles that are neatly organized into specific departments, with labeled shelves and racks. With 10,000 new items added daily, there really is something for everyone! The Overland Park location is very spacious with aisle after aisle of almost new, well taken care of, clean, and organized merchandise. I even noticed several items with original tags still attached!

Shopping at Savers offers several benefits, recycling these amazing goods is beneficial to our community! The Overland Park Savers partners with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City. That means when someone donates a sweater, shirt, or jeans, it helps Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City serve at-risk through mentor-ship opportunities.

Thank you so much to Savers in Overland Park for hosting a fun night of shopping!

Cocktails With Kate Valentine

Last week I had the amazing opportunity to meet Kate Valentine formally Kate Spade while she was back in her home town of Kansas City to launch her brand new collection Frances Valentine at Halls! It was an amazing opportunity to meet such a successful designer and ask her all about her journey in the fashion industry!

I was invited with several other media professionals, to meet with Kate prior to a cocktail party benefiting the Brain Injury Association of Greater Kansas City and the official launch party for her new label. She shared many inspirational insights into her new line and what it means for her to launch it at home, in Kansas City! Kate is greatly impacted in her design aesthetic by her Midwest roots and designs her pieces in a "sensible way".  She sticks to classic pieces and loves to wear things over and over again and incorporates that trait into her design aesthetic. During the press conference she talked about her new found fearlessness with her designs. She feels more free when she creates and isn't afraid to take more risks this time around. I loved hearing her say that, and really think it shows in the pieces she has created for the Frances Valentine collection.

Kate grew up in Kansas City. She met Andy Spade in 1983 during college and eventually married and moved to New York in 1986 where Kate began her career as an accessories editor at  Mademoiselle Magazine. She saw a need for practical, stylish handbags and decided to create a smart, well-edited collection, so she and Andy began the company, Kate Spade. The company grew to hundreds of stores internationally and was a huge success and inspiration to many! After great success and accomplishments with the brand, Andy and Kate sold Kate Spade in 2006 when their daughter was two. Kate took the opportunity to raise her daughter at home and has no regrets about doing so, and I admire her so much for that!

Now, after almost a 10 year break from the industry Kate is ready to reemerge with a brand new label Frances Valentine. The name is a combination of Kate's father and mother's family names and was chosen to represent their legacies.

I am so glad I had the opportunity to meet Kate. She truly is such an inspiration to me and it was such a great experience to preview her brand new collection, Frances Valentine, and hear her amazing story!

Styling New Trends | Summit Fair

I've been on the look out for all kinds of new spring trends at Summit Fair! Strappy tanks, pastel colors, and boot or flare jeans are all strong trends I've noticed around the stores lately. During this transitional time of the year I always  like to find ways to incorporate new trends into my existing wardrobe. I often wear blazers and jackets during the spring season and I wanted to find a way to style these trendy tanks I've been seeing in a more conservative way. I chose to layer this one under a pretty pastel pink blazer for a fun yet polished way to style this more edgy piece.

Jana Style Tip: These criscross strapped tanks are looking to be a big hit this season! The ladies at Buckle Summit Fair are having a hard time keeping them in stock! I went with a black one so that I would have plenty of styling options and later in the season I could wear it without my jacket for a girls night out or summer concert!

Spring Color Play | Summit Fair

Today I've got a fun spring outfit to share with you! I've been feeling a little over some of my heavier layers and spring sweaters lately and I am ready to turn it up a notch for spring! I love playing with color and pattern as a way to re-energize my wardrobe. One of the best ways to add some pattern is to find a great fitting, sleek pair of cigarette pants like these. I chose a black and white pattern so I could create multiple color and style outfit combinations with these into the spring season. I added two pops of colors to my look with a bold magenta shoe and this pretty teal top!

*Jana Style Tip - I added a long beaded  necklaces that incorporated both of my pops of color to tie it all together. For inspiration on complimentary color combinations use the color wheel as a guide.
