Guide to Winter Beauty | AOL Beauty Awards

This season I was chosen as one of  AOL's 20 Beauty Judges to try out some of the most loved winter beauty products! Winter is the worst for keeping my hair, skin, and nails looking great and feeling great so, I was so excited to get the chance to try out all of these amazing products and review them here for you! "Beauty" is something I have been dabbling with adding more of here on JANA STYLE, so let me know if you love this post and would like to see more beauty topics covered! In the meantime check out AOL's Winter Beauty Awards for all the product reviews from the other judges and insider tips on all things beauty!

Tatcha Rich Silk Cream

This moisturizer really felt like silk on my skin. It comes with a perfect little applicator making it easy to apply. A little goes a long way! A good moisturizer is so important for the dry winter months and this one is really good! I've been using it right after washing my face or hopping out of the shower. If you apply your daily moisturizer when your skin is still damp you will get the best results.

I love that this product is oil free and gives the perfect amount of soothing feeling to my skin without feeling heavy. It also has UVA and UVB sunscreen protection. The pump applicator is easy to use and gives you just the right amount. I even used this on the top of my hands and it helped so much with dry skin and sun protection.

Ever Skincare - Luminous Cleanser

This cleanser has a unique fresh feeling when applied. It doesn't have a lather and really made a difference in the dewiness of my skin. I could see a brighter look to my skin which I loved! I wouldn't use this everyday because it was a little heavy for me, maybe every other day and before bed for extra moisture.

Boscia Cleaning Stick

The Boscia Cleansing Stick is easy to use in the shower and made my skin feel really clean and fresh! I've really been loving the charcoal cleanser and I can tell a difference in my skin.

Beauty For Real's Lip Revival Scrub and Mary Kay Satin Lips Set
Beauty For Real’s Lip Revival Scrub
I love the smell of this product and easy to apply creamy texture. It gave my lips a smooth refreshed feeling and also added some moisture.

Easy two step process and really makes a huge difference in dry and cracked lips. This is definitely a winter beauty essential!

BECCA Multi-Tasking Perfecting Powder

I love the light weight feel and perfect blending this powder creates. BECCA products always look so natural on my skin and I really like that. Not heavy and not cakey :)

Beauty For Real's 24/7 I-Line

This eyeliner has a really dark color and looks amazing. It goes on really smooth without much pressure which I love. I've been wearing it for a few days and haven't had any smudge or smearing problems throughout the day. It looks great!

L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Feline Noir Mascara

This mascara creates gorgeous lashes. I loved the dark color and fullness! It did not add as much length as I usually like but I did love how dark and full my lashes looked.

Slipsilk Pure Silk Pillowcase

I've been using my silk pillowcase for about two weeks and I can tell a major difference in my hair and morning routine. When I wake up in the morning my hair is smoother and less frizzy without that bed head look.

These chapsticks provide the perfect amount of moisture and a small amount of tint that is perfect for the cold winter months. The merlot shade is my favorite!

Kenra Platinum HiDEF Hairspray, Living Proof Fresh Cut Split End Mender, Umberto Boar and Nylon Oval Brush

This stuff is Ahhhmazing! It's so light weight and feels super soft on my hair, but somehow still manages to tame my fly-aways and hold things in place! It's awesome and will now definitely be a staple beauty product for me!

Living Proof in Fresh cut Split End Mender
This product is a game changer for winter hair. I could see less frizz and a more smooth texture to my ends. I also love that it can be applied to both damp and dry hair for touch ups.

Umberto Boar and Nylon Oval Brush
Love this brush! It went through my hair so easily and detangled my ends before blow drying and it also made my hair less static

Five perfect wand sizes all in one! It's perfect for travel and saving space! Love the beautiful, soft waves this wand creates!

REVLON in Roll The Dice and Kester Black in Pearl

REVLON in Roll The Dice
A beautiful gray irredescent color that is perfect for any season.

A shade of pink that is versatile and beautiful. One of my favorite nail colors.

Winter Weekend Wear

This weekend the sun actually came out and it was about 60 degrees in Kansas City! I feel like I have not seen the sun for weeks, I'm going through a major winter slump -- all I can think about is sun and warm weather but I can't catch a break... do you know what I mean?!? As soon as I saw the sun shining on Saturday I knew I had to get out of the house and take a walk, do a little shopping, and have some sister time!  This look has been my winter uniform, distressed jeans, cowl neck sweater, and my faux suede jacket. It's an easy layered look that gets me from day to night!

This tends to be one of the hardest times of the year for me to feel stylish and trendy. I feel like I'm getting a little tired of so many heavy layers and I get a little bored with my winter wardrobe at this point in the season. The stores are low on merchandise right now because of inventory and end of season sales, so I am soooo ready for some spring weather and some new spring clothes! Here's to hoping that little ground hog doesn't see his shadow next week and we can break free from this gloomy winter!

How do you keep your wardrobe fresh during the cold winter weather months?

Goodbye 2016...Hello 2017!

Well Hello 2017!!! I know it's been a little quiet around here for the last week or two so I wanted to check in with all of you and let you know what I've been working on lately. January is always a month of refreshing and reflecting for me. It's a time for me to tie up loose ends and start planning and goal setting for the new year. To be completely honest, I've spent a lot of time over the last couple of weeks disconnecting and spending some much needed time with my husband and family. We got married this past August and it was a whirlwind! I had one of the busiest Fall seasons I can remember with blog work, Kansas City Fashion Week, and countless other styling projects. It's been great to rest and relax and just soak in all the time at home together :)  Here are a few things I've had going on behind the scenes....

KC Weddings Feature!

Last year I wrote for KC Weddings Magazine on their online blog as I planned all the details of our big day! I shared dress shopping, engagement photo prep, and all the tips for choosing catering, flowers, and decor. It was a fun experience to document all the meetings and decision making leading up to the happiest day of my life. I was shocked and brought to tears when I say this beautiful four page feature in this month's KC Weddings Magazine of Nick and I on our wedding day. This is truly something we will cherish forever and I couldn't be more thankful for such a beautiful feature!

FOX 4 Morning Show!

I kicked off the New Year with a fashion segment on FOX 4 Morning Show! I brought some of my favorite girls with me to show off some sparkly looks for ringing in 2017! We talked about cold shoulder trends, jumpsuits, and metallic prints! Check out the video if you missed it!  I love doing morning TV segments and hope to continue doing even more in the new year!

Kansas City Fashion Week!

I am the Fashion Editor for Kansas City Fashion Week, which means I spend a lot of time along with the other committee members working on so many details to bring the shows together. We are preparing for another amazing season of KCFW that will run from March 25th - April 1st! As part of the prep work that comes with a new season there are promotional photo shoots that help us create images to share during promotions and media outreach before the big shows. I LOVE working behind the scenes on photo shoots...you probably know that :)  I also work on content for the Kansas City Fashion week blog and occasionally take over our Twitter account to cover major fashion events like this past weekend's Golden Globe Awards! It's a lot of fun and I truly enjoy being a part of the biggest fashion events in Kansas City.

Goal Setting and Planning!

I have several goals for myself this year that I've spent a significant amount of time over the last couple of weeks working on. I made several goals last year that somehow got pushed to the back burner and a large "to-do" list that seems to just keep growing. I really want to make time for these things this year. It's a personal goal of mine to spend more time making a real effort to put these dreams into motion. It truly is the little things that make life worth living. It might be an hour a week that I set aside for myself to research trends, read a book, or try out a new beauty product. I think sometimes it's easy to fill every moment with meetings, work, or errands but I want to make sure I'm scheduling "down time" for myself to be creative and have more balance this year! Of course, I hope that helps me create better content here on JANA STYLE for all of you to read!

Are you goal setting and planning for 2017? What are some of your goals?
