Summit Fair | 2015 Spring Beauty

Spring is finally in full bloom it's the perfect time to update your beauty routine. It's time to throw out old makeup and hair or skin products and start fresh. I thought this week would be a perfect time to share some of my favorite beauty products, trends, and services that you can get from around the stores at Summit Fair

Showstopper Clay PaletteSephora at JCPenney; Benefit Roller LashSephora at JCPenney; Urban Decay Naked PaletteSephora at JCPenney; Colour Surge Butter Shine Lipstick in Fresh Watermelon - Clinique at Macy's; Perfectionist Airbrush SpongeSephoraBed Head Masterpiece shine hairsprayBeauty BrandsMatrix Biolage Color Last Shampoo and Conditioner - Beauty Brands; Aveda Stress Fix creme cleansing oil - Salon Ami; Aveda Wooden Paddle Brush - Salon Ami; Aveda Smooth Infusion style prep Smoother - Salon Ami; Hair Images Via here | here

Makeup:
Spring/Summer 2015 beauty is really all about neutral colors and tones, Dewey skin replaces bronzers this summer for a much more natural looking complexion.
Lips
Lip colors are still bold this season, especially in the dark pink and red shades. I love the Clinique colour surge butter shine lipstick line which is available at Sephora or the Clinique counter. Darker lip shades ruled the runways at NYFW. Carolina Herrera, Burberry, and Dolce&Gabbana all embraced the bold lip trend.
Hair
This season natural and boho-chic styles are the hottest fashion trends around. Hair trends are falling right in line with the same theme. Very loose beach-y waves, braids, and deep side parts with tousled day two curls are the go-to looks this season.

Nails:
The nude nail color is the hottest shade for summer. Just like your bare faced dewey complexion you will want your nails to look very natural as well.  Light shades of nude by Essie (JCPenney), Micheal Kors (Macy's), OPI (Beauty Brands), and Deborah Lippman (Beauty Brands)

Tulip Twist | All About That Base

Last week I participated in the Tulip Twist challenge with two fellow fashion blogger friends Alyssa of Little Fixations and Alissa of The Adored Life. Tulip is one of my favorite shops to visit on the Plaza here in Kansas City! They are the most friendly and supportive ladies ever!!! The three of us bloggers were each gifted this adorable "All About That Base" baseball tee in our favorite KC Royals colors to style in our own unique way. Then, Tulip asked their Facebook followers to vote on their favorite look! My girl Alyssa of Little Fixations took the WIN and isn't she the cutest! Check out the Three looks (HERE} Thanks so much to TULIP for asking me to participate in this fun styling challenge :)

Color Me Happy | Summit Fair

This dress right here is what I would call the "anti-little-black dress". It's so colorful and pretty, I couldn't help but smile while I was wearing it! As soon as I put it on I felt an instant good mood pour over me. That's the power of finding a good piece of clothing, that makes you feel pretty and confident, and one of the reasons I love fashion so much! When I am having a rough day or I don't feel my best, dressing up just a little bit more or adding a pop of colored lipstick always gives me a bright spot in my day.

All the pieces of this look were found at Summit Fair, Sheath Overlay Dress {JCPenney} Nicole Miller Blue Blazer {JCPenney in store only} Bold Elements Double Layered Gold Necklaces {JCPenney in store only} Cream Satchel Handbag {DSW similar online} Nude Strappy Heels {Charlotte Russe}

There is something to be said about finding clothing that makes you feel better about yourself. I think it's called "dressing happier". Everyone has a day here or there that feels like nothing could possibly go right and the sun just couldn't shine bright enough. But, think about it, if you start the day in an outfit that you absolutely love and makes you feel good about yourself, it sets the tone for the whole day to just go so much better.

I know I am kind of weird to some people when it comes to fashion. I put a lot of thought into my wardrobe and I've spent my whole adult life working in the fashion industry, so I naturally associate some of my biggest moments in life with what outfit I was wearing or what shoes I wore. I attach a lot of emotion to my clothing and I associate times in my life with certain clothes in my wardrobe -- good and bad. Think about it, do you have moments in your life when you remember something major happening to you and you can still recall the outfit you were wearing???

Clothing can be a really powerful tool when it comes to finding your self confidence. Every women has a different personal style and a different perspective on style. We all have a different relationships with the contents of our closets. If you have bad energy for something you have hanging in your closet, get rid of it. You won't feel good wearing it and it's probably wasting space. Give yourself a boost by choosing clothes that make you feel your best and that you associate with good positive feelings -- like a colorful water color print dress with a figure flattering silhouette. You never know, ditching that little black dress for something more vibrant could change your whole day!

I found this look by shopping the stores at Summit Fair! Come out and Shop with me!

Fashion For A Cause Designer Preview: Sarah Nelsen feat. Trajet Jewelry + GIVEAWAY

I am so excited for the upcoming Fashion For A Cause fashion show and so honored to be an official blogger for the show on Friday night (April 17th, 2015)! This year marks the 10th Anniversary of the high intensity fashion show raising money for Women's Health at Truman Medical Centers.

Last week I had the opportunity to visit FFAC designer Sarah Nelsen in her gorgeous studio to take a sneak peek at her collection. I can't give away too much before the big show, but I have a few little behind the scenes looks at the gorgeous fabrics and colors you will see from Sarah during Friday night's show, for the rest you will just have to grab a ticket

Sarah is such a talent in the Kansas City community. She graduated from the University of Kansas in 2006 with a BFA in Visual Communication and continued her education in pattern making and garment construction. She has designed costumes for Quixotic performing arts group and has shown collections in the West 18th Street Fashion Show. Most recently she studied draping at the London College of Fashion. When I met with her in her studio we talked about each of the pieces she would be showing at Fashion For A Cause. I was fascinated by the beautiful construction of each piece and the gorgeous fabrics she chose. This collection of ready to wear pieces is actually part one of two collections that follow the same color story and theme. She will debut the second more artistically inspired collection at West 18th Street on June 13th.

Sarah's collection will feel soft, fluid, and feminine. The color palette sources sedimentary rocks and quartz as the color inspiration. Amethyst, bronze, charcoal, and onyx will make up the earthy palette. This collection has a very beautiful mix of materials including a brushstroke printed knit, a "lace-like" knit as well as some darker rich knits and wovens. The collection will include pieces that can transition from the warm summer months to the cooler fall temperatures.

Sarah has partnered with Trajet by Tracy McClain for the Fashion For A Cause show. The jewelry pieces that will be paired with each look are absolutely beautiful. I noticed crystals, edgy rock pieces, and leaf patterns that pair perfectly with Sarah's fabrics and silhouettes. It's a perfect match for each of the designers to pair their pieces together!

Fashion For A Cause | Feng Boutique

Hey All! It's going to be a crazy week around here for me! So many exciting projects and events going on in the next few days! I am super pumped to end the week on Friday at the Fashion For A Cause fashion show celebrating 10 years of style while benefiting Women's Health for Truman Medical Center!  I am an official blogger for the show, so make sure to follow along on social media with me for behind the scenes peeks as things unfold Friday night. And did I mention, Mario Lopez is hosting! What!?! I am so excited to see him! Get your tickets while you still can!

I stopped by Feng Boutique over the weekend to scope out some options for what to wear to the big show. Feng, which means “style” or “blown in”  is such a gorgeous and colorful boutique! I had a blast perusing through the pretty clothes in such a fun and positive atmosphere. The walls in the fitting room are filled with positive words of encouragement and inspiration! I could have stayed there all day playing dress up! A huge thanks to Maria, Anna, and Cindy for being so sweet and helpful and letting me hang out with them for awhile!

Feng will be presenting several looks on Friday night at the Fashion For A Cause show and I'm looking forward to seeing what they send down the runway!

Spring Festival Style | Summit Fair

Coachella is right around the corner (INDIO, CA | APRIL 11-13 & APRIL 18-20) and spring concerts, festivals, and picnics will start becoming a regular event in the next few weeks! I know I live in the Midwest, but my inner California Girl always likes to dream about what it would be like to attend the Coachella Music & Arts Festival. This time of year it's always fun the play around with the festival style vibe in my wardrobe and I've been noticing this theme in fashion around the stores at Summit Fair quite frequently. This year there are plenty of popular trends that play right into the free spirited, Boho, and Indie inspired looks I often see associated with Coachella. I have to say, I love embracing this super fun & comfortable trend!

Kansas City Fashion Week | Saturday Night Look

I finally got my last look from Kansas City Fashion Week up on the blog today! I know it's been like two weeks since the show, but I just loved this outfit and wanted to give you all the details...better late than never right!?! ! Before the show I headed to the ULTA Media Party and sipped on gorgeous cocktails and snacked on some of the best appetizers EVER! It was such a fun party before the show!
I knew it would be an action packed night and a jumpsuit is the perfect trendy piece to wear and still feel confident and comfortable.

Black Jumpsuit {Maurices sold out also love this one} Hot Pink Cropped Blazer {old similar here} Gold Belt {Target} Pearl Necklace {here} Black Sandal Heels {Charlotte Russe} White Clutch {Francesca's

5 Tips for Wearing a Jumpsuit:

*Add a Jacket - A sleek blazer or leather jacket can really bring the whole look together and make you feel more confident. I don't like my arms so I always like to add jackets to my looks.

*Choose Black - Black is a classic and when I first tried the jumpsuit trend I went with a color I  knew would be versatile and functional in my existing wardrobe. I might venture into a patterned jumpsuit later in the summer.

*Loose fitting Fabrics - Choose a jumpsuit with a more forgiving fabrication. A tight fitting jumpsuit makes you feel more constricted and less comfortable, instead go with a looser fitting flowy fabric. This will be much more appealing when wearing it in the warmer summer months as well.

*Dress it up! Add accessories and a pretty belt to your jumpsuit like I did for fashion week! It can make a huge difference how you feel about the look once you add accessories.

*It's all about that length - The jumpsuit I wore to fashion week had a fitted leg, which for me was important because I am short, so finding a looser wide legged jumpsuit in a short enough length without getting it altered as been a challenge for me. In general, a good rule to follow is to allow the pant length to reach your ankles. If the legs of your jumpsuit are a wide legged version make sure the bottom just barely touches the ground but doesn't make it hard for you to walk.

I hope these tips help you find the perfect jumpsuit! Don't be afraid to give this trend a try, it really can be a flattering look on almost any body shape! If you have more questions for wearing jumpsuits let me know, I'd love to help!

Thank You to Ulta and Kansas City Fashion Week for the AMAZING goodie bags and for another perfect season!
