Fall 90's Vibes | Your Life Styled

Does anyone else love the nod to the 90's that's been happening in fashion for fall? I can't get enough denim, midi skirts, and these fabulous silky slip blouses with a lingerie inspired vibe. They are back in a big way this season and they are perfect for channeling your inner Cher, although she may have layered hers over a little white t-shirt, I decided to pair mine with this distressed denim jacket and my favorite flared midi skirt. I love the "too cool to care" attitude from the 90's which featured a emphasis on youthful minimalism and rebellion. I'm a child of the 90's so it's really fun for me to see trends come back for a second time with a modern twist.

* Choker Necklaces - Velvet, lace, and metal chokers can take an ordinary look up a notch! 

*Lingerie inspired pieces - Silk dresses and camis have made a big comeback in everything from red carpet fashion to everyday style. Celebrities like Selena Gomez, Heidi Klum, and Rhianna have been spotted rocking this trend. 

*Overalls - A more modern and chic version of the overall is trending this fall season. I love them paired with feminine tops and long sleeved cold shoulder blouses.

Light Fall Layers | Summit Fair

Happy Thursday! I can't believe how fast this week has gone! August is coming to an end and September is right around the corner. It's still really warm here in Kansas City so I've been playing with some light layering pieces that can easily be taken off as the day heats up. I love these super soft light weight waterfall cardi-wraps! They are always a go-to layering staple for me during these transitional phases of the fall and I will continue to wear them through the winter with leggings and booties. This is the time of year when I stock up on key pieces that will carry me through the next couple of seasons. Light weight sweater fabrics are starting to show up in just about every store at Summit Fair. They are perfect for layering with some of my summer tanks and light weight tees as I wait for the weather to cool down.

FALL LAYERING TIPS FOR EVERY FASHION GIRL:

*Shape - Pay attention to how each layer falls on your body. Don't let your figure and waist get lost in too much bulk.

*Fabrics - Leather, light weight knit sweaters, suede, and silky feminine fabrics are all trending this season. Play up the mix of a couple different fabrics together.

*Keep it Simple - Too many layers can be distracting and make you feel uncomfortable, keep it minimal especially in early fall. 

*Complimentary Pieces - If you're going to wear a big, comfy top - rock body-hugging pants underneath. A distressed pair of boots adds to the cool weekend vibe.

*Menswear Inspired - Add some menswear flair to your fall looks with key pieces like a cute pair of oxfords, boyfriend denim, an over-sized black blazer or a perfectly wrapped scarf.

♡ Bachelorette Weekend ♡

Well it's finally wedding week! I can't believe it!!! A couple of weekends ago I enjoyed my bachelorette "stay-cation" at the beautiful Hotel Sorella here in Kansas City with some of my life-long besties! We had a blast celebrating and enjoying some much needed girl time before all the craziness of wedding week begins. Hotel Sorella is a beautiful boutique style hotel with gorgeous decor and the most amazing rooftop pool! It's located near several restaurants, shopping, and nightlife hot spots! When Nick and I got engaged last summer we celebrated by having the most beautiful dinner at the Rosso Italian Restaurant inside of the hotel.  The atmosphere at Hotel Sorella is unbelievable and it felt like the perfect place to celebrate my last weekend out as a single lady with all my girlfriends!

After we enjoyed some fun in the sun at the rooftop pool we headed to Parlor KC, the best blowdry bar in Kansas City! Each of us enjoyed some "glam time" prior to heading to dinner and it was perfectly located just a couple of blocks from the hotel. The girls at Parlor are awesome and had several appointments blocked for us so we could all have our hair done together! The appointments are around 30 minutes, and only $35! We had our hair shampooed, enjoyed some champagne, and each of us had our hair blown out and styled! It was so fun and such a perfect thing to do with all my friends before we headed out for a night on the town!

You might remember a few months ago I attended a VIP Styling Event with bridal dress designer Martine Harris of Martina Liana Bridal Designs. I tried on several dresses that evening and eventually decided that this beautiful long, sleek, dress from Martina Liana’s bridesmaid line, Sorella Vita would be perfect for my Bachelorette night out! The ladies at Martina Liana Bridal were absolutely amazing and sent it to me the week before my big night! It was so sweet of them to make sure I had it before my bachelorette party! I loved wearing it and felt so glam and beautiful!

What's Trending? | Summit Fair

This week, I was so excited to style some of the fun new accessory trends for the Fall '16 season. StyleWatch and Charming Charlie just released their limited edition fall collaboration. I was absolutely in love with the new collection when I saw the bold colors and animal print details! These eye catching, color block combinations of red, black, and animal print are perfect for incorporating into your existing fall wardrobe. A little black dress can instantly be jazzed up by simply pairing it with one of the collection's fabulous handbags and a few necklaces. 

This fall choker necklaces with dainty details of velvet, lace, and leather are on my radar. I've seen them styled by several celebrities and fashion magazines by layering them with long necklaces or simply worn alone. I love the throw back, 90's vibe and I think this will be a "must-have" accessory this season!

Chunky heeled booties are also a fall favorite for me. These sleek, black faux suede almond-toed classics with a subtle skinny belt that wraps around the ankle, are perfect for wearing with skinny jeans, fall dresses, and boot leg styled denim. 

By investing in a few 'must-have' accessory trends now you can start working them into your pre-fall wardrobe! Starting with accessories always helps me ease into bigger trends later. It's much easier, and less expensive to add a few new handbags and some smaller accessory items in to re-style some of the existing fall pieces you might already have in your closet from last year.

I'm excited to be partnering with Savers today as a part of the #IGiveAShirt Campaign and National Thrift Shop Day (August 17th)! Savers is challenging people to show they Give a Sh!rt about their clothing footprint by making their next new t-shirt a thrifted one, and donating items they no longer need rather than throwing them away. It's amazing how much purchasing just one thifted shirt instead of buying a new one can impact our environment and local community!

Each year, people consume over 80 billion pieces of clothing, causing the clothing industry to become one of the world’s biggest polluters. This back-to-school shopping season (the second-busiest shopping period behind the December holidays), Savers is challenging people to come together to save 700 million gallons of water through one simple act: replacing one new t-shirt purchase with a thrifted one. If Savers gets 1 million people to choose a thrifted t-shirt in place of a new one, it’ll be the equivalent of saving over 1,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools full of water, before the first school bell rings.

As a fashion blogger and wardrobe stylist, I often visit Savers to find unique pieces and also to draw inspiration for new ways to wear things. Many times the items I find at Savers are gently worn with little-to-no wear or even better, brand new! I also love to find vintage pieces that are one-of a-kind and super unique for photo shoots or my own personal wardrobe. Not only does shopping for these pieces make a positive impact on the environment, but donating your clothes to Savers’ nonprofit partners instead of tossing them out, can help keep hundreds of millions of tons of reusable clothing from piling up in our landfills every year. My personal styling clients know from working with me that making a donation of the pieces we eliminate from their closets is not only a major step in the organizational process and re-building of their personal wardrobe, but it makes it much easier to part with items that aren't being worn when they will be donated at Savers for another women to wear and not thrown in the trash polluting our community. It's a win-win situation by donating and shopping thrift!

Tax Free Shopping + Exciting News! | Summit Fair

Happy Thursday! I've got tons of things to share with you all today! With Fall right around the corner, my calendar is filling up with fashion events and some really exciting projects! But before we get into all of that, lets talk FASHION! Today's blog look features this comfy little denim dress that I am absolutely in love with! The off the shoulder style has been on repeat for me all summer long! I spotted this denim style and knew I had to have it. Today I dressed it up with a couple of simple necklaces and my favorite colored pumps, but as the weather starts to get cooler I can't wait to style it with a vest or jacket and some super cute booties.  Denim is so transitional and perfect for this time of the year! When you are out shopping for back-to-school clothes or new fall wardrobe staples think about how you can wear things several ways before making your purchases. This is the time of year to get the best bang for your buck when making those transitional pieces count! 

Speaking of that...This coming weekend (August 5th-7th) is Missouri Tax Free Weekend! Whoohoo! Certain back-to-school purchases, such as clothing, school supplies, computers, and some other items are exempt from sales tax! Shop at Summit Fair on Saturday, August 6th for special deals, kid friendly fun, and Gift Card Giveaways! + you might spot a few minions or two running around!
