Wear to Work || Summit Fair

Sometimes dressing for your 8-5 can be very daunting. It's not always easy to feel fashionable while staying within company dress codes. I work in an office environment and I know what it's like to sometimes feel boxed in by rules of dressing. I always want to be professional yet still stay true to my persoanl style and comfort, and that's why I follow a few simple rules when choosing my work wardrobe. Its so important to keep in mind that the way your colleges and clients view you could make or break your professional reputation.

1. Plan Ahead
Plan your outfit out the night before. I'm a planner by nature but it really does make your morning go much smoother if you take 10-15 minutes before you go to bed to lay out your outfit for the next morning. Make sure your outfit is ironed or steamed and your shoes are with your outfit. Not being able to find your shoes in the morning is one way to ruin your day, Don't do it! :)

2. Over Dress to Impress
This rule goes two ways. First, don't wear it if it feels too tight, too short, or too low cut. Dressing conservatively is highly recommended in an office environment. Don't push the boundaries when if comes to appropriate coverage.
Second, when you plan your outfit the night before, plan as if you are going to meet a very important client or you have an extremely important meeting. Be over prepared in case something like this does happen. Dressing too nice is never looked down upon. It means you care about your appearance and your job.

3. Dress like your Boss
Okay, that doesn't mean dress exactly like your boss, just use your boss's dress code as your guide. There is really no better way to be taken seriously than to dress on the same level as your boss. Looking like you are VIP Corporate level material might just help you get there a little bit faster :)

4. Comfort = Confidence
It's simple, if you feel comfortable you will work more efficiently and you will feel better about yourself.

5. Accessorize!
Sometimes the best way to spice up your work wardrobe is to add some fun accessories. A statement necklace and bold earrings are the best jewelry for the office. I tend to avoid bracelets and dangling jewelry because I don't want to get hung up on things and typing on the computer can be pretty difficult with any type of bracelets on my wrists. Last, but not least you have to have a statement bag! I love this one I found at Maurices in this deep burgundy color. It's perfect for fall and adds a pop of color.

Blouse {c/o Maurices at Summit Fair} Black Slimming Smart Tab Pants {c/o Maurices at Summit Fair} Necklace {Maurices sold out but I LOVE this one} Earrings {c.o Maurices at Summit Fair and they are only $12.00 what!!!} Handbag {c/o Maurices at Summit Fair} Shoes { similar here and here at DSW at Summit Fair}
