I am so excited for the upcoming Fashion For A Cause fashion show and so honored to be an official blogger for the show on Friday night (April 17th, 2015)! This year marks the 10th Anniversary of the high intensity fashion show raising money for Women's Health at Truman Medical Centers.
Last week I had the opportunity to visit FFAC designer Sarah Nelsen in her gorgeous studio to take a sneak peek at her collection. I can't give away too much before the big show, but I have a few little behind the scenes looks at the gorgeous fabrics and colors you will see from Sarah during Friday night's show, for the rest you will just have to grab a ticket!
Sarah is such a talent in the Kansas City community. She graduated from the University of Kansas in 2006 with a BFA in Visual Communication and continued her education in pattern making and garment construction. She has designed costumes for Quixotic performing arts group and has shown collections in the West 18th Street Fashion Show. Most recently she studied draping at the London College of Fashion. When I met with her in her studio we talked about each of the pieces she would be showing at Fashion For A Cause. I was fascinated by the beautiful construction of each piece and the gorgeous fabrics she chose. This collection of ready to wear pieces is actually part one of two collections that follow the same color story and theme. She will debut the second more artistically inspired collection at West 18th Street on June 13th.
Sarah's collection will feel soft, fluid, and feminine. The color palette sources sedimentary rocks and quartz as the color inspiration. Amethyst, bronze, charcoal, and onyx will make up the earthy palette. This collection has a very beautiful mix of materials including a brushstroke printed knit, a "lace-like" knit as well as some darker rich knits and wovens. The collection will include pieces that can transition from the warm summer months to the cooler fall temperatures.
Sarah has partnered with Trajet by Tracy McClain for the Fashion For A Cause show. The jewelry pieces that will be paired with each look are absolutely beautiful. I noticed crystals, edgy rock pieces, and leaf patterns that pair perfectly with Sarah's fabrics and silhouettes. It's a perfect match for each of the designers to pair their pieces together!
